Now there's something you don't see every day

So my family and I are at the Thirroul Arts Festival.

The kids are with the husband scoffing fairy floss and getting turned upside down on the rides, while I perused the sculptures on the beach.

I'm madly snapping away when something made me turn around.

Crikey! Now there's something you don't see every day.

  1. Nope!! Mind you, we had a camel living in a little town 15 minutes away. There were camel rides at The Show etc in the Apple Isle!! Interesting sculptures too!!
Oh did you have a camel ride??

  2. I didn't Cindy, but the husband and the daughter did.

Actually, my husband and I went camel riding for a whole day in Morocco once - way back when my life was child-free and much more glamourous.

  3. I suspect there is one person who makes a living out of selling beach camel rides at community events on NSW's east coast. When I lived at Manly they would bring the camels out for various festivals and things a couple of times a year. (I was always worried about where the camels slept overnight when the festivals ran over several days.)

  4. Meg - there were two female camel handlers who seemed extremely conscious of the camel's welfare. They was obviously a lot of mutual respect and dare I say it, affection, between those beasts and the women.

But, true enough, I don't know where they come from.

Don't camels sleep standing up anyway?
