Yooo hooo - Anybody home?

It seems to me that nobody's knit blogging any more. I went for a ride down my sidebar recently, and so many of them haven't updated in months! I also noticed that, ironically, an apology for a long blog break and an undertaking to blog more in the future is often a sign of a blog's finality.

I don't read parenting blogs (for a lot of reasons, but mainly because, quite frankly, I don't give a shit about how anyone else does it). I do like interior design blogs (I'm deeply shallow), don't mind a bit of food photographed well, don't like spinning either unless it's very well photographed - on the whole it's really only knitting blogs I like - and they're disappearing!

Not only that, the ravelry boards are boring me senseless lately. (I think they're WAY overmoderated - not just the Aussie ones, all of them - they'd be feral under my control no doubt).

I swear to you, if it weren't for iphone twitterific and my 'mad spend money on the internt skillz' (a phrase coined by Donna, stolen by me) - I'd be bereft. Really, it's very rude of all those strangers not to be more accommodating of my need for internet stimulus. Come back knitting blogs, I miss you!

Anyhow, in between dyeing and looking at the ageing final pages of so many knitblogs, I started a new project. It's completely different from anything I've knitted before and it's BURNT ORANGE.

I am knitting the Elvira, all grown up in Kurbis Wollmeise twin.

More doom and gloom : this internet shaping thing has been exacerbated by the rumblings of a computer about to die. There seems to be a bit of that around lately too I've noticed - computer death. It's not the buying of a new one that worries me (that might be fun actually), it's the remembering all those passwords and settings that will be the real hassle. What a pain!

Yoohoo I'm still here! posting even! I agree things seem a little scarce of recent months on the blog front... Is there any hope, do you think?

I'm still here. And I agree with everything you say. As always. And I'm sorry, but to my elderly and jaundiced eye Elvira agu looks suspiciously like what we used to call a maternity smock. Now, it seems, when you're pregnant you proudly wear tight-fitting stuff and bump out; when you're not you modestly wear flowing stuff and hide your shape.

I love the yarn though.

I agree with you completely! I really enjoy knitting blogs, and even when people post a lot to Twitter/Facebook/Ravelry/whatever, it's not the same kind of thing.

Hey ho!!! I would hate you to be bereft!!! I think I have a bit of a knitting down time in the midst of Winter and then I pick up again as Spring comes!!!

I totally agree about the Rav boards (except that my group did go feral for a bit - cos I just joined in and forgot to be a mod - it was all good fun - then an outsider reported the thread and I had to get all grown up about it) now I hardly post to any threads (except my group) because even innocuous posts seem to end in dramaz.I will try to post more...

As a relative newcomer to blogging I'm still enthusiastic (and I notice I'm not on your blogroll!). But I agree about the dearth of bloggers. A number of my favorites - even those who inspired me to start - have ceased or blog infrequently. Do you think it's new technologies like Twitter? Ravelry? or, horror of horrors, that knitting is losing its popularity?

Hi LynS - my blogroll is so ancient and has been lost twice - I don't read from bloglines, I mostly just click around. I read my blogs through rav friends now.

I have put you on my sidebar though!

I am one of those guilty of not blogging reqularly. It's hard to keep it up with so many other activities going on.

Bells, Rose red and Lyn are still keeping me enthralled with their knitting progress and updates.
Twitter is way too distracting - along with you etsy stall - I have to resist SO hard!!!!!!

I totally agree regarding Ravelry

Hi
I have only just started blogging this week after spending a couple of years browsing in what little time I had.

Now have the time, but I am leaning more to crochet but like to keep up-to-date with my favourite knitting sites.

And my first comment too!!! :-)

I've given up on most of the forums on Ravelry, I have to admit - only the image-heavy ones get my attention these days...

Interesting that the apology is the pre-cursor to the ultimate demise, I'm going to start watching more closely!!!

I've got the same problem. Have noticed lots of my favorite blogs haven't been updated in months so I've started deleting them and looking for new ones.

And I share you dyeing computer problems too. Our laptop is dyeing and I'm desperate for a new one. Just got no idea what to buy so waiting for husband to get his act together and buy me one.

i'm done! as you already know because we discussed it in canberra way back when. in many ways i'd like to keep blogging but i just don't have the mental fortitude to dedicate to it at this point of time.

i've even transferred all my old posts over to wordpress in anticipation of killing off typepad. hey why pay for what you don't use!
