Time was on my side

It's been a rollercoaster around here the past few months - I worked fulltime for a while - had my gallbladder removed - the house went to auction - we thought we'd sold it and were excitedly planning on doing something completely different - but then it fell through so we were plunged back into this holding pattern - our car blew up (a 2004 bmw shouldn't have to have a completely new engine but it did) - and I had fiftyfifty club parcels to pack and mail - and then suddenly it was all over and school holidays were upon us.

It was all quite exciting for a while, but now has gone back to a nice chilled autumn school holiday break.

I have made a great deal of progress on the Irish Coffee - it seems to be morphing somewhat into a winter cape instead of a fitted tunic - but I hate posting wip pictures.

Instead, let me show you a finished item - Sugar and Cream Cowl by the lovely Never Not Knitting.

I knit this in a new to me yarn, the most divine Debbie Bliss Andes. I know, a single - pilly. I know, alpace, sheddy. I know, silk - smelly. But I don't care, the softness of this is indescribable. I am never taking it off.

Pattern
Sugar and Cream Cowl by Alana Dakos at Never Not Knitting - rav download

Yarn
Andes by Debbie Bliss - 2.1 skeins in silver.

Oh my god this yarn.

Needles

3.25mm circular and a cable needle

Modifications

I cast on 2 less repeats than the pattern called for because I wanted it to be less slouchy and closer to the neck. Everything else, same same.

I was disappointed I had to dip into the 3rd skein at the final ribbing, I should have cast on the right number of stitches I think it would have been an even three skeins then.

Maybe some mitts with the rest.

Well that is a gorgeous cowl. Shame about the house stuff, hope it all works out. And in the meantime, rest, get well and play with the pretty yarn.

I just love the grey and gold together - unexpectedly, I think I'm a bit obsessed with bright yellow just now. Aren't Alana Dakos's designs good? They have a youthfulness and light-heartedness I really like.

Hope to see you soon.

silk is smelly? Really? (genuine question - no sense of smell here!)

The cowl is gorgeous. Stunning job!
