Sock Roulette
Here is the sock I knitted for my sock roulette partner. I hope she likes yellow.
I've seen various opinions in the knitosphere about the appropriateness/desirability of photographing your socks worn with high heels. Personally, I like it (obviously), but that's because I love high heeled shoes, and I wear them all the time.
When it comes to shoes, I have tranny taste. As a matter of fact, it's something I've learned to like about me.
The argument that it isn't a practical application of the article is neither here nor there with me. I only really wear my knitted socks around the house anyway, not being much of a flat shoe person - winter or summer. Besides, it's only a picture, not a serving suggestion.
In any case, after you've exerted a not so small amount of energy choosing the most photogenic wall in your house, placing your camera on an upside down tupperware container, roped in some extra lighting and stood on you tiptoes with one leg in the air whilst pressing the shutter button with a broomstick you'll realise that wearing the high heel isn't the bizzare thing. More than once did I think this is a mighty stupid thing to do.
Still, keeps me off the streets I guess. And in those shoes, probably just as well!
Pattern Notes:
Ravelry Project Page
Hedera by Cookie A.
Yarn: Superwash Merino Nylon Sock yarn hand painted by knitabulous (full range coming soon? depends on what day you ask me.)
Colourway: Lemon Crisp
Modifications: None really, except I kept the twisted stitch flanking either side of the centre lace panel all the way down the sock. The pattern loses it at the heel. Doesn't make that much of a difference, except it changes the needle arrangement for the foot part.

Nice sock. I'm loving the little tripod I got for Christmas. The broom trick sounds good, I just use the shutter delay? Last time I photographed socks on feet, I realised the floor was in dire need of a sweep :)
you're right. there is something absurd about it but I love it! It amuses me. And i like your techniques. Might borrow some.
Love the sock. Love the shoes. Love the photo.
Love it all, and especially the comment about the full range coming soon ... that sounds interesting!
I think your sock modelling is fabulous. Not being a high heel wearer I am so envious of your obvious poise and flexibility!! Bravo. Nice dyeing.
I appreciate that you brought up the high heels issue, because otherwise it was going to KILL ME. I am firmly anti-high-heel-sock-photography. I can't explain why. It just skeeves me out.
All I can say is YUM!!!!!
Ooh, love those shoes! All my high heels have been languishing in my cupboard since I left London - maybe I need to brush up my knitting and start making socks... Love the socks, too!
By the way, the word I have to type in to verify this comment is "buthole"! I wish I knew how to take a screen shot.
i love both the socks and the shoes!! gorgeous!!!
Whatever others opinions of a high-heeled pose, I find it very effective. Your sock first caught my eye on Ravelry yesterday, where it caused me to consider knitting a Hedera of my own. Looking at the other fo photos for that pattern didn't have the same effect. It's a great color and a nicely staged photo.
I just can't believe you knit a pair of socks in two days. Amazing.
I love the shoes and the socks - mmmm next on my list of to knit in the sock world!!!!
I am knitting these socks right now! I wish I knew the secret to getting one done in two days!!
This post made me laugh!! As I do most of my knitting photography outside, I often wonder what the neighbours must think I'm doing and why!!
They are great photos!!
nice yarn, love the sock, and the photo... well, i just LOVE the photo with the shoe!!
and regarding calypso's comment about "buthole" - i'm not even going to repeat the word i have to type in. just let me say that it has a couple of meanings. one is what you end up doing to your finger if you handle a thorny rose bush.
Awesome. And I love the shoes. And photographs. Someone should be thrilled with that sock. Beautiful work.
Lovely socks & a great idea to present the sock with high heels. I always want to photograph my socks on tippy toes & now I can do so on high heels but have to go & borrow some first.
I just relised the name of the colourway (der!). Can I buy some when it "becomes available"? I love it. Love the sock and the photos too. I'm a big fan of the sock & high heel photo myself.
