I had an itch, so I scratched it.

Way back in May (was it really that long ago?) I had an itch to knit something in feather and fan. It's taken me this long to scratch it!

I finished the Tweed Baby Blanket that I didn't tell you I started. I made it from the leftovers from the Autumn Rose Pullover kit from knitpicks. I used an additional almost full ball of white from Donna's leftovers as well.

As soon as I put it on the sofa for photographing, look who jumped on it and snuggled in.

Project Details:

Pattern: Tweed Baby Blanket by Jared Flood. Beautifully written pattern, easy to follow. I strongly disliked the font used for the headings, but hey, what would I know of these things?

Yarn: Knitpicks Palette, the grey leftovers from the autumn rose pullover kit, plus one extra ball of white for the centre.

Modifications: I used five chromatological shades of grey, from white down to charcoal, instead of the two tones suggested in the pattern. I did the i-cord bind off in the first shade of grey because it was my favourite of all of them.

When picking up for the edging, I couldn't get the edging to look neat using the suggested pickup method, so I picked up the bar between the garter ridges and one corner stitch each corner for the first round. The second round I increased as per the suggestion. It sits nice and flat, and the pickup edge looks tidy.

New to me was the i-cord bind-off. Wow. Not as fiddly as I thought it was going to be, not even as slow as I thought once I got going - and the result is worth every bit of extra effort. I'll be using that method again for sure.

And guess what else? It's a gift for someone! That's FOUR TIMES I've knit something for someone else this year - I must be going soft in my age.

I'd definitely knit this blanket again, which is excellent because by the way the dog loves it I just might have to!

Look at those pleading eyes "this is for me, right? For meeeeee?"

It looks great - I love the grey shaded edging, very cool.

What a great way to scratch your feather and fan itch. A project that features two of my favourite knitterly things - garter stitch trimmed in shades of grey.

It's so lovely, the shades of grey are perfect and I am pretty sure it is just dog size too!!! I like the i-cord cast off, I did that edging on my Imaginary Husband Felted Bag.

Gorgeous - both the blanket & the dog. I love the colors graduation & the feather & fan stitch is one of my favorite.
