An important thing will not forget.

Now that the second instalment of the Black Japan Yarn Club has been mailed and recieved, I'd like to make a confession.

I couldn't think of a good name for the colour.

Can you help me think of a name?

Here's what it looks like

Put your suggestion in the comments box and you will win not only the yarn, but a bonus inclusion of your choice of the following cute little Japanese plastic products I gathered for the quest.

The only criteria is that it must allude in some way to a Japanese or Oriental theme, and preferably not cherry blossoms (but I wouldn't rule it out if you can think of a clever twist on it).

I'll pick my favourite, the winner will recieve the yarn and the plastic thing of their choice, and I'll give the remaining plastic things to three random comments.

COMPETITION OPEN UNTIL SUNDAY MAY 30th AT MIDNIGHT EST

PRIZE SELECTIONS:

No 1. - A Folca Box

This natty little box has seven compartments perfect for stitch-markers, pins, a little tape measure and tapestry needle. It's perfectly Japanese, cute and well-designed and has even a little strange lost in translation message written on it. It really is a very rare and handy thing, the folca box!

Can you read it? "If it always has folca an important thing will not forget."

No. 2 - a sushi rice mold

You can pack your kid the coolest lunch in the school (or your own for the office) with this little sushi rice mold. There's a star, a heart and a little teddy bear face - it's properly designed with a press and a mesh base to squeeze out moisture - complete with easy to understand (for some) Japanese pictorial instructions.

No. 3 - a personal sushi cutlery kit. Knife, fork and chopsticks all in a little plastic box. Cute and useful!

No. 4 - a bento box. Two compartments, each with a lid that doubles as a tray for the contents of the compartment.

So - away you go. I look forward to seeing your names.

Berry Gin Sling.

It is Friday night and I am thinking of drinks :)

this yarn colour reminds me of:

umeboshi (pickled plum) and
beni shoga (red ginger pickle)

another possible name is:

akajiso (Japanese for purple perilla, the herb used to dye both umeboshi and beni shoga)

source: wikipedia :-)

My Skein was a really rich red like the little Daruma doll I have, although I notice other examples of this yarn are slightly pinker. Daruma dolls are seen as a symbol of perseverance and good luck, so that's my suggestion.

I'm going with Hanami. It is such a beautiful colour, and some cherry trees do blossom that colour pinky-red. So I'm going with Hanami. :)

(Hanami are the sakura festivals - sakura being another name I could think of)...

Geisha lips?!? Tragic, I know, but it's not cherry blossoms...!

Those folca boxes are too cool!

The only suggestion I can think of (right now, I may come back) is Hello Kitty. I know it doesn't really fit the elegant nature of the yarn club, but that colour just makes me think of Hello Kitty! Or Harajuku Girls. (ok, so that's two suggestions!)

I did think of Hanami too, but Shelley's beaten me to that one!!

I'll call it "summer sunshine in japan" because it seems a sky red, soft... and of course, lovely!

Geisha is a lovely name, although how about Memoirs (as in Memoirs of a Geisha), which ties in with your blog post title?

How about just Akai - the japanese word for red?

Geisha's Kiss

MWAH!

momoiro which is pink in japanese I think

or

moshi moshi - which is the hello when you answer the phone

I can't decide

My choice -

aishiteru

which means - "I love you in the most devoting way"

Its also a weird combination of my name & the name of one of my twins!

hmmm, it's not strictly Japanese, (perhaps at a stretch you could say Oriental), but the first thing that came to my mind was Pomegranate Pearls.

Crimson Queen which is a Japanese Maple

What gorgeous red yarn! Maybe Red Embers!

Charisse said...

Beautiful yarn! I would call it Tokyo Rose, for the mysterious WW2 lady/ladies/urban legends who mesmerised the Allied forces on the radio in the 40s

Hmmm, it's tricky and there are some good suggestions here.
I'm going to add Suikajūsu which I'm hoping is Japanese for Watermelon juice (I used a Google translator so I guess it could be anything really!!)

Aka-chouchin which means red lantern.

Berry Hara-kiri. A gang of dishonored strawberries, "jam" themselves in the samurai tradition :D

Though I must say, my favorite is kamakazi, dark as it sounds! lol.

This part-Korean girl is hungry, and it makes me think of Gochujang! Yum.

I will suggest red lacquer

As I am not a pinky-pink girl, but my skein was almost salmon or coral I would suggest Sango-Shoku and all the little plastic things just sound fabulous - I love the Bento box....

Tinkingbell - from slow Fijian internet.....

Geisha's Pout!

That was the very first thing I thought of, then I saw some other 'Geisha' suggestions but thought I'd put it out there anyway! BEAUTIFUL.

My suggestion is 'Kimchi'! The colour reminds me of the sauce and spice colours of kimchi.

Beautiful yarn! :)

Aww!! dillpickle already said my one! Geisha's Lips.

I thought I was onto a winner for sure!!

Turns out, I am just a whiner, LOL. Oh well. maybe next time. Great competition idea! More more!!

Am loving both colours received!
You certainly have a the knack and an eye when it comes to the old dye pots ;-)
Count me in for your next club...
As for names, i'm liking the references to Geisha and would like to suggest "Blushing Geisha" or "Geisha Blush". I see the colour as being modest and subtle with hidden depths and strengths - kinda like a Geisha. Thanks Ailsa :-)

PS Being my first club, I'd totally forgotten about the regular instalments. Imagine my surprise to arrive home and find unexpected yarn awaiting me... pure joy!

Ooh I love Geisha's Kiss (by Vintage Grrl) but my own suggestions are Ichigo which is Japanese for strawberry, or Niiro which is Japanese for red.

It's luscious yarn in any language.

Am I too late? This colour reminds me of my grand-daughter who has amazing manga girl hair with spalshes of res through the dark - so I call it "Manga Girl". (I do love Tokyo Rose and Geisha Kiss)

Beautiful colour reminds me of volcanos - so Fuji is my suggestion. Also for the lush colour and taste of the Fuji apple

I think I missed the dateline - anyway, my suggestion is Ikura (salmon roe) my favorite sushi topping. The color is gorgeous & I love it.

I like the allusions to geishas but most of my suggestions have already been made.

So I'm going with "Blowing Raspberries in Roppongi"
