How to find iknit london without your GPS

First you take the family on the London Eye, just to butter them up.

Then you have lunch in all bar one, making sure your husband has at least one pint.

Then you suggest a walk through the tunnel and witness a grafitti artist at work.

Then you find a post office where they will tell you that they don't know how to look up an address. Something I conveniently forgot about England, but was reminded almost immediately upon my arrival - Computer Says No is barely exaggerated, that's why it's so funny.

Then you find a library where they tell you that the shop is practically next door and you are about to walk past it.

And suddenly there it is in it's grubby glory.

I liked this shop, it was exciting to see a range of yarns that you would never see in yarn stores in Australia, like fibrespates Scrumptious. Which I may have fallen for quite heavily - in baby pink and gold. When I took it to the counter, the person behind the counter said, in deference to the beautiful yarn - 'ooh, you're going to make something lovely'. And indeed, I hope to make something lovely with it.

I loved iknit too. But lots of people don't. There have been mutterings about grumpy staff members. You takes them as you find them I guess.

oh my, that scrumptious really does look scrumptious - that cherry red, that slate, that midnight...sigh.

I also had trouble finding this shop - lots of false turns. I'm another fan of the shop - it seemed to me to have lots of local yarns and the evening I was there was full to bursting point with a knitters' gathering. I bought nothing as I was suffering travel and shopping fatigue by that stage, but there was lots I loved.

I've been there a few times and always been welcomed and had a good experience.

Hilarious! I love your post. I will make sure DH has a pint or two before my next visit to LYS.

I agree that iKnit is a bit difficult to find. Sometimes getting through that graffiti tunnel in dark winter afternoon makes me scared.

Very funny, you know what makes your family tick. Reminded me of how lost I became when I visited one very hot July day last year (33dc), only to find that I was so close the first 2 goes and didn't need to traipse back through the tunnel. I think the heat explained the bizarre service I had that day, the range though was very impressive, plus the 'wall of Elizabeth Zimmermann books on display.

I love I Knit, it's my Wednesday night sanctuary! I make a great effort to get there, even when the Tube is down and it means walking from Hyde Park Corner...
And, strangely enough, Fyberspates Scrumptious is my new favourite! I've got some 4ply/sportweight in teal and a friend is using Water for a simply beautiful hat.
