Out for a duck?
My husband and a few of his mates play cricket for the local University team. Nevermind the fact that they are all, ahem, 'veterans' (and I don't mean ex military, I mean 'old'), and most of them have never stepped foot in a University (except perhaps to fix the lights)*, from my understanding it was chosen as the best club for apres-cricket beers.
So whilst some husbands ask for socks, mine asked for a cricket slipover.
And I obliged. Bendigo Woollen Mill Rustic, made up pattern, the less said about it the better. Thank god for imaginary knitting police, and wifely guilt, for I tell you this was not a labour of love, merely a labour.
But, in contrast, there's always Norah Gaughan. This cardigan is called the Wedgette (unfortunate I know), and is being dosed out at a very civilised pace over on ravelry. Can you tell which one I like more?
For the record, my husband, the absent minded professor, is a notable exception here. Can't have you thinking I'm married to an electrician can I?

Both look great. Why do they want woollen cricket vests in summer anyway? Will it actually ever be worn?
Your Wedgette is looking great. Don't dis the vest--that's a lot of good knitting, and it looks perfect.
I like the cricket vest, it's very Peter Davison, but I understand the labour thing. It's not very lovely!! The 'Wedgette' on the other hand is gorgeous!!!
I've got one of those a-m profs and sometimes I think an electrician would be more use.
Definitely publishing this as
Anonymous - I completely agree!
If you pop on over to the ravelry group Knit Before Wicket (a group of cricket tragics) you will see there are people there clamoring for a cricket pullover pattern. Any chance you'd write this one up for sale? (I know I'm risking an almighty beamer just by asking you this!)
I'm surprised but also somehow not to learn you have a cricket-tragic amp for a spousal unit -- as do I. Fortunately (?) mine has for manymany years kept his last cricket jumper, so I don't have to knit him one. (I do have to prevent him from wearing it in public on non-cricket occasions, sadly enough.)
I love the cricket vest. I only watch cricket so that I can admire the men in their vests!
