Don't have a cowl man
And the puns never stop around here.
There are a multitude of free cowl patterns on ravelry and the internet in general, but there's always room for one more. It looks crocheted, but it's not.
The thing about cowls is they are so quick to knit, make great presents and I think they are quite cool, especially on blokes. With the Christmas season looming, they're very blog-sexy right now.
Name: Ciara's Cowl
Design: My own
Yarn: Organic merino 10 ply, handdyed by me in a
eucalyptus colour, 2 balls with plenty left over of the second ball.
Substitutions: Malabrigo worsted. Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran.
Needle Size: 3.50 mm - I used 2 circs but you could magic loop.
Gauge: 24 st x 28 rows over 10 cm AFTER BLOCKING
Using the long tail method, cast on 120 stitches. Join, being careful not to twist, and work the cowl in the round. I used 2 circs but you could magic loop or dpn's - they'll all work fine.
Work 10 rows of 1 x 1 rib.
Change to purse stitch pattern and work the two row pattern 16 times (or more if you want a wider cowl)
Row 1: P2tog, yo to end (don't forget the yo at the end!)
Row 2: K2togtbl, yo to end (don't forget the yo at the end!)
Work 10 rows of 1 x 1 rib again.
Cast off using a stretchy method (I used a tubular sewn bind off.)
(Massive black bags under eyes: Check. Plenty of regrowth in the hair: Check. Wearing a tracksuit: Check. Must be time for a photoshoot!)
