I packed up my yarn stash yesterday with the intention of putting the whole thing out for destash as a single unit. For Sale: 1 instastash.
While I was packing it away, I realised I do actually really like a great deal of it, so I changed my mind. But there will be no starting of new projects now until after the move in early October, because I have imposed a 'nothing new in' rule on the household until then. It's going to be hard enough to pack what we already have without adding unnecessarily to it.
But that's not to say the wip's aren't getting a seeing to. The crochet kit I posted about a while ago has been a complete breath of fresh air to me, I'm enjoying it so much, after so many mentally taxing projects it feels like cheating to be crocheting mindless little hexagons night after night.
Using the 'african flower' motif, I crocheted about 60 hexagons. It might not be enough, and I still have some perle cotton left, but at this stage I really wanted to experiment with some joining techniques.
There are many ways to join hexagons together in crochet. I went for a very simple single crocheted joining technique which I made up out of my head, although I'm sure I'm not the first person to do it like this.
I'm so happy with the way it's turning out, I'm half inclined to buy 11 more perle cottons and just keep working on it until it's a bedspread. It won't feel like cheating then I'm sure.
It's keeping me occupied while I madly procrastinate about our impending house move.

Hope all goes well with the move. I understand about the procrastination and I've only just got around to buying shelving for books, just on five months after move. So it works both sides of the move.
Love those hexagons. I can crochet but don't often.
I think i would prefer dental treatment than moving so I do understand that.
The instinct to declutter and chuck it all is so strong at that point. Seriously how much stuff do we really need?
So glad you are enjoying the crochet. There is much joy in a simple project that follows complexities.
I'm sure I've commented before about just how much I love the colours in this crocheted whatever. It seems like a perfect project for that awful 'preparing for moving' time in your life. Enough to distract you from the awfulness of things, but not a monolithic commitment.
SO pretty :D If I wasn't so busy knitting hexagons, something like this would totally be getting started after seeing yours.
I don't envy the move, but do appreciate the feeling of "chuck it all".. :D
The hexagon whatever is so lovely! Gorgeous colours. Good luck with the packing, decluttering etc. Hope it all goes as smooth and painlessly as possible.
this is really the only kind of crochet i can handle, delicate and colourful. its so so lovely. and im with jody, id rather have root canal than move again. it is nice to clear out an dhave a fresh start, but god, the packing. let me know if i can help!
Wow, I love your choice of colours and the way that they work together. A bedspread would be a good idea... Good luck with the move (although you are super organised and won't need it!)
Looks beautiful! Love the colors.
Love the colors & they will look fabulous as a bed spread.
I like the way you've joined them all together. It gives each hex a border. I just love the colours you've used.
What size will the finnished item be?
This is looking lovely Ailsa ! Good luck with that move, never fun it only reminds you how much stuff we collect..lol
